2022 Mitsubishi Outlander price and specs – up $1000

The new Mitsubishi Outlander is almost upon us.

Mitsubishi has confirmed pricing for the 2022 Outlander SUV ahead of its arrival on Australian shores in November 2021.

The plug-in hybrid version, as detailed in our price and spec story here, will arrive in Australian dealers from August 15.

UPDATE, 05/08/22 – A Mitsubishi Australia spokesperson has confirmed the Outlander range has received a $1000 price rise due to component shortages and increased supply chain costs. New Outlander PHEV pricing remains the same.

This latest price increase follows a $500 price rise in May, as well as minor specification changes in February for MY22.5 due to ongoing semiconductor shortages.

Customers with existing orders are price protected and no specification changes have been made following the minor alterations in February.

Under the skin, the new model shares its bones with the new Nissan X-Trail. At 4710mm long, 1862mm wide, and 1745mm tall with a 2706mm wheelbase, the car is significantly larger than its predecessor.

It’s 51mm wider, 38mm taller, and 15mm longer than before to be precise, with a 36mm longer wheelbase.

With a new platform comes new technology. Inside, there’s a new centre airbag between the front seats to stop flailing limbs smashing into each other in a side-impact collision.

A full suite of driver aids will be offered, including forward and reverse AEB, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic assist, blind-spot assist, a surround-view camera, and driver attention monitoring.

There’s also trailer sway assist and hill descent control, working in tandem with a revised take on Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system to make the new Outlander more capable than its predecessor.

Like before, the all-wheel drive system packs brake-based torque vectoring, but Mitsubishi says its new clutch system is faster-acting than before. The Outlander will also be available with front-wheel drive.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a CVT with eight pre-programmed steps to mimic a torque converter.

Peak power is 135kW and peak torque is 245Nm. A more powerful plug-in hybrid variant will be released in the future, but details aren’t yet available.
