Why is Kanye West asking parents to sign NDAs while his new school gets accredited?

Kanye West has a new project that goes beyond music, he has started Donda Academy, a Christian prep school that recently opened in Simi Valley, California, where parents of the students have to sign Non-Disclosure-agreements.

Donda Academy was named like his album, in honor of his late mother Donda West

The academy now has about 100 students that are receiving a different type of education, which of course includes musical instruction, however, one of the things that stand out about the school is the fact that parents of students attending the school must sign a type of NDA.

Malik Yusef is a producer and collaborator of Kanye West, and he comments “The process of Donda school is for the parishioners, for the attendees, I don’t think Kanye needs to tell the world what he’s doing, so that he can be under more scrutiny.”

God as a focus

“People choose to bring their kids to Donda Academy for a sense of privacy,” Yusef elaborated “A sense of care, a sense of concern, a sense of love, an environment of health, and an environment of wealth, an environment of learning, and putting God as a focus.”

Kanye wants to prepare the leaders of the next generation

Doing a little digging, there is the Donda Academy website which reads “Using an ethic of integrity and care, Donda Academy prepares students to become the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators by providing them with a world-class education that includes a rigorous core curriculum, and an emphasis on sustainability, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving.”

The school has not passed the accreditation process

Rolling Stone magazine interviewed Tamar Andrews, who subsequently is a consultant for Donda, and she mentioned that since the school has not passed the accreditation process in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, parents are asked to sign an informal confidentiality agreement.

The school’s director is Brianne Campbell, and along with the direction tasks she is also responsible for the school’s choir program. And according to Yusef, Kanye has a five-year plan to open more schools in the near future.

Kanye West has always wanted to do this

“I want to be emphatic that there’s never been a time that Kanye West did not want to do this,” Yusef elaborated. “I think people don’t understand the gravity of that. This man always wanted to create a school in his mama’s name. … Look at what we’re doing with the choir and the fashion in school-I don’t think there’s a venture capitalist or anybody that’s had a vision this clear on what education can look like for you.”
