Barcelona‘s trip to take on Bayern Munich left a positive impression of Xavi Hernandez‘s side. The result came s a blow, but their performance showed that they are on the right track again.
Looking beyond the scoreline, Barcelona had chances to draw or even win the game and they played very well.
“Learning is hard,” Xavi reflected after the game. “We feel like we dominated but we lost. I’m angry, but I’m proud as well.
“We were the better team, but this is about winning.”
The Supercopa de Espana against Real Madrid
The feelings after Munich were similar to those after the Supercopa defeat to Real Madrid eight months earlier. Although the Catalans lost, they were pleased to have made progress and been competitive after falling so far away from the top.
The debate has reopened among fans… are Barcelona really back and ready to compete with the elite? MARCA have spoken to some Barcelona figures, and the consensus is that things are looking good.
Tente Sanchez’s realism
“I want to be realistic, it’s not going to be as easy as was thought. I’m pleased with the Bayern game, and they could have won that in other circumstances. They left a good impression, and there’s a lot of character and potential there.”
Carles Rexach and the resurrection
“There were two different games against Bayern. Barcelona were well on top in the first half and had chances, but Bayern were better in the second and Barcelona slowed down. They lacked conviction, and there was a lot of respect paid to Bayern, but Barcelona competed. They’re coming back to life.”
Juan Carlos calls for hope
??”We go from euphoria to pessimism very quickly. On Tuesday there were chances but Robert Lewandowski and others lacked precision. Those misses can happen, but it’s a problem in games like that one. It’s a concern, it wasn’t a good result but there’s no reason for pessimism. This isn’t the time to have doubts.”
