LAFC clinch No. 1 seed in Western Conference, secure Champions League ticket

Los Angeles FC (LAFC) clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference of the MLS and secured its ticket to the 2023 Concacaf Champions League on Saturday.

LAFC don’t take the field until Sunday, but this weekend is already a win thanks to Austin FC drawing against Nashville SC.

The 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs kick off October 15 and LAFC will be the top seed in the West, which gives them homefield advantage through the conference finals.

The Eastern Conference seeding remains up in the air between Philadelphia Union and CF Montreal.

LAFC take on Houston Dynamo on Sunday at Banc of California Stadium.

How far will LAFC go in MLS Cup Playoffs?

With the additions of Gareth Bale, Giorgio Chiellini, Denis Bouanga and Cristian Tello, LAFC are in a “championship or bust” mentality.

Cristian Arango is one of the league’s leading scorers and Carlos Vela continues to dominate matches with his playmaking ability.

It’s all up to head coach Steve Cherundolo to make the right moves in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

In its short history, LAFC is 1-3 in postseason play overall, and they will be looking to convert their playoff record into a positive.
