Gregory Rodrigues sustained a bloody cut during his comeback victory over Chidi Njokuani in the main event of UFC Vegas 60, leaving him with a visible scar on his forehead.
In what was essentially the opening exchange of the bout, Njokuani delivered a knee kick that left Rodrigues wobbling and caused the cut right between his eyes.
Between the first and second rounds, the cutman frantically worked on Rodrigues, but it was obvious that if the bleeding worsened, the ringside doctor could have to call a halt to the fight.
Afterward, UFC president Dana White posted a pair of photos on Instagram – one before and one after – as Rodrigues got stitched up from the gruesome gash on his head. Since the photos were shared via Insta Story, we leave you with a Twitter user that managed to grab them before they’re gone.
Given that he will return home with a victory rather than a defeat, Rodrigues’ stitches probably didn’t upset him all that much. Additionally, he will receive an additional $50,000 after sharing the Fight of the Night trophy with Njokuani at UFC Vegas 60.
At that point, Rodrigues erupted with an aggressive onslaught that ultimately resulted in him pinning Njokuani to the ground and knocking him out via TKO in the second round.
Rodrigues vs Njokuani at UFC Vegas 60
Although Gregory Rodrigues will definitely have the scars from UFC Vegas 60 for the rest of his life, at least he earned some additional money.
One of the four post-fight bonuses for UFC Vegas 60 went to “Robocop” for his stunning comeback victory against Chidi Njokuani in the co-main event on Saturday.
Rodrigues overcame a horrifying cut to knockout Njokuani in the second round. Both men won the title of Fight of the Night.
At UFC Vegas 60, Damon Jackson and Joe Pyfer both received one of the other two bonuses of the evening for their first-round TKO victories.
Pyfer knocked out Alen Amedovski in under four minutes, while Jackson terminated Pat Sabatini’s night in just 69 seconds.
In the evening’s main fight, Cory Sandhagen defeated Song Yadong via fourth-round TKO due to doctor’s stoppage.
