New Cleveland Browns scandal: fan assaults owner Jimmy Haslam, gets banned for life

ACleveland Browns fan will be banned from FirstEnergy Stadium and will no longer be able to watch his favorite team after he was identified after throwing a bottle at team owner Jimmy Haslam.

The incident occurred Sunday in the Browns’ 31-30 loss to the New York Jets after the visiting team pulled off a miraculous comeback in the final two minutes.

After the touchdown, a video shows that Jimmy Haslam was heading to the locker room when a bottle hit his leg, but he realized from which area of the stadium the projectile had come from and pointed to that place, which was decisive for the stadium security to locate the aggressor.

Who assaulted the owner of the Cleveland Browns?

It is Jeffrey Miller, 51, according to police reports, who assaulted the owner of the Cleveland team after the touchdown that caused the defeat of the home team.

In NFL Netowrk’s Tom Pelissero‘s footage, you can see that Haslam, 68, was startled at first… but then seemed to become enraged and pointed to where he thought the bottle was thrown from. Security reviewed the video and were able to identify the assailant, although they were initially unable to apprehend him.

After the assailant initially avoided being caught, police reported that he was detained and taken to a police room inside the stadium, and the man appeared intoxicated. He was arrested and booked on three charges, including disorderly conduct, failure to comply with a lawful order and assault.

Browns’ stance on new scandal

Following this situation, the NFL team came out in a statement that they plan to ban the fan, and while fortunately no one was injured, they want to avoid any similar situations.

“The safety of fans, players and staff is the top priority in our building and behavior that puts others at risk will not be tolerated. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident and, as standard practice, we have cooperated with law enforcement authorities and security video footage of the thrown object is in the appropriate hands. We will have no further comment on this matter.”
