Tom Hardy is still competing in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, this time he won the gold medal

Since his last outing at an amateur jiu-jitsu tournament where he won two medals, Tom Hardy has been racking them up like a champ. This time around, the ‘Venom’ star felt good-enough to participate in the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open in Milton Keynes. He got all the way to the final against veteran Jiu-Jitsu fighter, Danny Appleby.

Hardy took away the gold and surprised all his opponents for his toughness, a trait Hollywood stars don’t normally have. Apart from his unusual stregth, Tom Hardy surprised everyone for being such a nice guy to people. Appleby told local media Hardy asked him to treat him as a normal person and then got on to compete. Tom has been making the rounds in local tournaments around the UK, he’s done it quietly and under his real name: Edward Hardy.

Appleby was ‘shell-shocked’ fighting Hardy

This is what Appleby told the local media after fighting Hardy: “I was shell-shocked. He said, ‘Just forget it’s me and do what you would normally do.’ He’s a really strong guy… You wouldn’t think it with him being a celebrity. I’ve done about six tournaments and I’ve been on the podium in every one. But he’s probably the toughest competitor I’ve had – he certainly lived up to his Bane character, that’s for sure.”

Tom is no stranger to martial arts, he’s practiced them for many years in order to get prepared for different acting roles throughout his entire career. But perhaps his love for MMA started from preparing for his role in the 2011 film, ‘Warrior‘. He plays a former marine who returns home and gets his da to train him for a mixed martial arts contest. Hardy talks about getting ready for this role and how much it changed his life.

Today, the Academy Award nominee is taking giants steps towards making one of the most important martial arts in the world, a mainstream sport. Pro athletes of this sport such as Gordon Ryan are also making everything they can in order to get pro Jiu-Jitsu athletes better pay. Although Tom Hardy’s involvement in all of this should make a giant difference as well.
