Jim Irsay says that the thought of the Colts tanking is ‘bullsh*t’

The Indianapolis Colts aren’t having the season they’ve hoped for this year and for the first time since being handed the ownership of the team over 27 years ago, Jim Irsay fired a head coach in the middle of the season and to make the matter more unpredictable, he hired Jeff Saturday, a Colts legend but still a former player with no coaching experience at any level in college or the NFL.

The Colts, with a 3-5-1 record are currently two games behind the last place in the AFC’s playoff picture, the Chargers at 5-3.

Jim Irsay squashed the idea of the Colts tanking

For a few weeks the Indianapolis Colts have been under the public scope due to the franchise’s decision to bench Matt Ryan and the naming of Sam Ehlinger as the rest of season starter, but then two consecutive losses after that decision ended up with head coach Frank Reich being fired.

Now, owner Jim Irsay is saying that the idea of the Colts tanking is one of the most absurds one he’s ever heard of as he added they don’t do that in his team during an interview with The Athletic’s Bob Kravitz.

“That’s bullsh*t. We’re in this thing; 9-7-1 get us in, no question about it. We’re going to do what it takes to win. I don’t know who people think we are, they don’t know us. We don’t tank in Indianapolis.”

Jim Irsay doesn’t know who will the QB be

Jim Irsay also mentioned that he’ll leave the decision of who’ll play quarterback to newly arrived head coach, Jeff Saturday, but they’re starting with Sam Ehlinger due to his mobility and playmaking ability, but all the QBs in the roster are there to help the team win.

“It’s always been about whoever can help us win going forward. We’re going with Sam, and if there’s a notion for Jeff to make a change … that’s Jeff’s prerogative, and it was always Frank’s prerogative. It’s wrong to say I mandated it [benching Ryan] and it’s wrong to say they can’t go to the other guy.”
