The State of California is set to decide who will inherit Aaron Carter‘s estate after the famous singer passed away last week. Carter and his fiancee Melanie saw the County Dept. of Children and Family Services remove his son Prince from their home.
Aaron, who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, was found dead in his bathtub. The 11-month-old child is now living with Melanie’s mother, but he is expected to inherit his father’s estate. According to TMZ, when a single person dies without a will in California, the kid gets their estate.
Aaron’s lawyer reportedly advised the singer to make a will despite going through a tough period in financial terms. TMZ reports that his house was on the market, which means that Prince could get part of the earnings.
“Aaron worked very hard towards the end of his life in recovery, to be a good father and to make amends with his family,” a spokesman for Aaron told The U.S. Sun after his death.
“Unfortunately without proper recovery facilities available in our country and open borders, this is why we have an epidemic.”
How did Carter die?
Aaron Carter was found dead in his bathtub by his housekeeper, and although it is not absolutely clear how he died, some suspect that it was related to his long-standing battle with drug addiction.
Less than two months before he died, he spoke of the battles he faced with drugs, but insisted that he was “five years sober”.
“I have done the work, working with the most renowned psychiatrists that there are,” he told The Sun.
