Virginia University Shooting: Three dead and the gunman remains at large

The gunman who was behind a shooting on the University of Virginia campus on Sunday night is still on the loose and is considered armed and dangerous.

There was a shooting at the Charlottesville campus which resulted in three deaths and two more injured people.

Police in North Carolina hunt for shooter

The University Police have named the suspect as Christopher Darnell Johnson and he is considered “armed and dangerous”.

The police also told those in the community that they should remain indoors.

What happened in the Virginia University Shooting?

It was announced by the police at 22:30 local time that shots had been heard in the area of Culbreth Road on the campus.

“UVA Alert: ACTIVE ATTACKER firearm reported in area of Culbreth Road. RUN HIDE FIGHT,” the department tweeted about 10 minutes later.

The shooting suspect was described as a black male wearing a burgundy jacket, blue jeans and red shoes, according to the campus cops. He could be driving a black SUV.

The shelter in place order remained in effect for at least three hours as the suspect remained at large.

University of Virginia President Jim Ryan’s statement

“As of this writing, I am heartbroken to report that the shooting has resulted in three fatalities; two additional victims were injured and are receiving medical care,” University of Virginia president Jim Ryan said in a statement.

“We are working closely with the families of the victims, and we will share additional detail as soon as we are able.

“This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visited the University of Virginia.

“I am holding the victims, their families, and all members of the University of Virginia community in my heart today, and we will make plans to come together as a community to grieve as soon as the suspect is apprehended.”
